Our 1 day gorilla trekking safari that starts from the towns of Kabale and Kisoro takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable national park which happens to be home to half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas. Situated in the southern western part of Uganda, Bwindi covers an area of 331 square kilometers and lies on the edge of the rift valley. It also doubles as the largest natural mountain gorilla habitat in the whole world. Seeing these species while on a Uganda gorilla safaris in the wild is breathtaking and a once a life opportunity that everyone deserves.
36 gorilla families have been documented in this area but only 17 families have been habituated and made available to tourists for trekking. This is the cheapest gorilla trekking safari and while in Bwindi, you can choose to trek gorillas in any of the four trailheads which include; Rushaga, Nkuringo, Ruhija and Buhoma. Permits to go see mans closest relative in their natural habitat go for $700 for foreign nonresidents, $600 for foreign residents and Ugx 250,000 for east African citizens and can be purchased from the Uganda wildlife authority.
While on a trek and in search of mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you will be able to come across other wildlife species in the wild like several bird species, antelopes, baboons, elephants, buffaloes, tree species, butterflies and very many other species.
Detailed itinerary
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
You will wake up early in the morning, take breakfast and at 7:00am, our driver/guide will come to your hotel of residence in either Kisoro or Kabale pick you and drive you to the park headquarters where you will be briefed on the guidelines to follow while close and before contact with the gorillas.
Once briefing is done, you will be led by a ranger in group of 8 people into the dense jungles of Bwindi in search of mountain gorillas. Be mentally and physically prepared for this activity as it can be tough and sometimes long depending on the location of a particular gorilla family that you have been assigned to trek. Its during the trek that you will be able to see other wildlife species found within the boundaries of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
On spotting the mountain gorillas, you will be led to the endangered species by the game ranger close but at a distance of 6 meters from the gorillas. Here you will be allowed to take as many pictures as you can of these species while observing their behavior as they feed and play.
Once the 1hr that you are allowed to be with the species elapses, you will be led back to the park headquarters where our guide will pick you up and take you back to either your hotel of residence in either Kisoro or Kabale or Kisoro airstrip.
